Spicer Church Council

The Church Council is an elected body, at least half of whom are Elders.

Their function gives priority to building up the life of the congregation in faith and love, sustaining members in hope and leading the congregation to a fuller participation in Christ's mission in the world.

In addition the church council is responsible for the up keep of the property and the appropriate use of the available resources. This responsibility is referred to the RAD sub-committee.

Resource & Development

The Resource and Development Group (RAD) are a sub-committee of the Church Council. They are responsible for the management of the resources of the church and the development of the church property.

Currently the committee meets monthly usually on the 4th Wednesday evening.

Members include the Minister (ex officio) & volunteers including the Treasurer/bookkeeper, a minute Secretary & members of the congregation with specialist knowledge or skills or an interest in church resources or property. Others may be co-opted from time to time to address a particular need. Working bees involve the congregation.

Finance is an important part of each meeting. The committee is responsible to the Church Council for preparing an annual budget & for monitoring & reporting major variations in income & expenditure against that budget. Although ministerial stipend & allowances are set by Synod, the salaries of local lay staff are the perview of this group.

An annual stewardship campaign is usually organised & conducted by the committee. Special fund raisers may also be run by this group eg garage sales.

Property matters may require the advice or assistance of outside agencies. The committee normally obtains several quotes before proceeding with work of significant cost. Minor works are often handled by in-church resources.

The committee is ever mindful of the church's occupational health & safety obligations & for the welfare of the congregation & the security a property which is over 100 years old.
